REPRONIG represents copyright owners in the literary field, managing reproduction rights, granting of licences, Monitoring and enforcement of copyright breaches.
Following a resolution passed at a workshop in November 1994, the Academic and Non-Fiction Authors Association of Nigeria (ANFAAN) was formed in 1995 and charged with the setting up of a reproduction rights organisation (RRO) in Nigeria. This initiative of the academic community led to the incorporation of the Reproduction Rights Society of Nigeria (REPRONIG) on 11 December 2000 as a collecting society to cater for the rights of authors in the literary field.
The Nigerian Copyright Commission granted REPRONIG approval to operate as an RRO in December 2001 and it commenced full operation in 2003 as a collecting society.
